The project Simulation-Based Optimization of Cogging Torque in Electric Motor Design by MAHLE Electric Drives Slovenija and the Jožef Stefan Institute is concerned with finding the best electric motor design that adheres to a number of constraints, among them primarily a low cogging torque. The search for appropriate motor designs comprises the execution of computationally expensive computer simulations. The task of the project is to devise a methodology to efficiently search the solution space by applying multilevel optimization approach in combination with surrogate optimization.
